[ale] Favorite distros

I used to avoid downloading software if I couldn't find
a binary. But lately it seems like I have been
compiling everything and am growing to like it. Makes
me wonder what I was scared of.

Regarding good distributions, although my primary
desktop runs Red Hat, I have a soft spot for Vector
Linux. It's great for making a nice linux desktop
machine from old hardware. I put it on a P75 laptop,
and she runs great. With a 2.4 kernel even.
