I am currently hiring for this Linux opportunity:

 

We are a member of the Amazon family and looking for a Systems Administrator
Leader for our permanent opportunity.

 

You will report to our Senior Manager, Technology.

 

Joining our team will have you providing secure, available, scalable and
operationally excellent infrastructure, support, and automation services
across our organization.  

 

You will enjoy communicating clearly and effectively with all our customers.
In fact there are days you may tend to over-communicate and over-document.  

 

While in this technically hands-on role, you will find yourself leading a
diverse team responsible for cloud and other (local, managed, etc)
infrastructure services supporting onsite facilities, IT, customer service,
and other teams.

What fun stuff you will be doing daily?

.           Configuring and managing development, QA, staging, and
production environments hosted in various cloud environments (Amazon) or
client hosting centers.  

 

Wait . it gets even better! 

 

In addition, you will designing and implementing our automated deployment
system to support automated host deployment, configuration and updates.

 

Boredom has no place here because you will also be .

.           Managing the promotion of code between environments using
current techniques and tooling for infrastructure, deployment, and test
automation 

.           Collaborating with client and internal development teams to plan
and support upcoming releases, and implement operational and process
enhancements to improve reliability and scalability 

.           Designing and developing solutions for monitoring and alarming
essential services.  Monitoring production system performance, uptime, and
daily operations, ranging from traditional system measures to
business-specific transactional monitoring for nightly jobs and ad-hoc
review of logs and BI systems, and be able to report on this performance
regularly in business facing ways.  Here you will put on your "Colombo"
detective style to watch out for external threats to the critical services
and take preventative actions towards managing availability and scalability

.           Developing capacity plans for future infrastructure needs and
scale server environments to implement those plans 

.           Identifying and implementing opportunities for automating
existing processes in order to streamline operations and support functions 

.           Managing Desk Side support and help desk functions across the
key business areas

.           Managing server and application patches for routine upkeep and
vulnerabilities 

.           Staying on the leading edge of innovations in the virtual
hosting and management space and desk side support functions, bringing
opportunities for improvement to the technical teams and guiding their
implementation

.           Your familiarity with database technologies and architectures,
including replication, management, and optimization is going to make you a
"star" here.

.           Your ability to perform problem determination and root-cause
analysis to maximize availability and meet Service Level Agreements (SLAs)
is going to take you places here.

.           Implementing High Availability and Disaster Recovery
architectures

.           Securing networks and servers to security standards

.           Configuration of DNS, VPN, firewalls, load balancers, server
OS's 

.           Working in coordination with others to develop strategic
solutions

.           Creating innovative processes to drive compliance,
accountability, and 

security

.           Participating in the development of strategic IT roadmap
development

 

Basic Qualifications:

.           Minimum 5 years of Linux/Unix System Administration experience

.           B.A./B.S. in Computer Science or related field 

.           Knowledge of multiple operating systems (Linux, Windows, UNIX) 

.           Knowledge of and experience with promotion strategies for
applications and 

                databases between different development and production
environments 

.           Experience performing needs assessments, database planning,
design, 

                application testing and integration, production cutover,
change 

management, and capacity planning 

.           Experience administering cloud or remote/managed hosting
environments 

.           Programming experience in a scripting language (Shell required,
Python 

and/or Perl a plus)

.           Networked services implementation and troubleshooting (DNS,
DHCP, 

                NTP, LDAP, SAMBA)

.           Deep Linux knowledge on Red Hat and Ubuntu platforms

.           Basic understanding of Windows client and server environments,
and their 

                interaction with Linux servers (via Samba, LDAP, etc.)

.           Strong knowledge of network and server security

.           Obsessively thorough analytical and problem solving skills

.           Excellent written and oral communication skills

.           Prior experience with Active Directory

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

.           Experience with Cisco ASA firewalls, Dell switches, VLAN
topologies

.           Experience with Heartbeat or Pacemaker cluster management
software

.           Experience with DRBD networked RAID

.           Experience with Splunk or other similar monitoring tools

.           Experience in writing automation scripts and self-service tools

.           Experience with Puppet\Chef automated administration engine

 

Salary: 90 - 105K base salary DOE + Stock Options + Sign On Bonus + Medical
+ Vision + Prescription + Optical + Dental + HSA, + FSA + 401K. First year -
2 wks vacation, after 2nd year, 3 wks vacation.
