Job Description

The candidate will be a key member of the 24x7x365 Division Engineering Operations organization; responsible for the monitoring, analyzing and troubleshooting of Comcast's Central Division Video Delivery systems and infrastructure.  Individuals will handle incoming escalations and engage appropriate engineering teams and vendors for advanced troubleshooting and problem resolution as needed.
Team members will act as the Division's Subject Matter Expert for all assigned technologies and provide guidance and assistance to implement developed design and configuration guidelines.
Team members will participate on select projects to provide recommendations, guidance and progress updates for various system migrations, service launches and technology initiatives.
Candidates will have experience and interest in pursuing growth and development in the field of video/network systems and tools utilized by Comcast as well as software based systems. The candidate is expected to display a strong sense of urgency and take a proactive approach to improving the customer experience.

Tasks:

*         Handle telephone and email escalations from the XoC, engineering and management teams

*         Communicate in a clear, concise and accurate manner during outage conditions articulating impact, steps being taken to restore, updates, etc. Active participant and leader to conference/outage bridges providing timely resolutions.

*         Responsible for retrieving video and network performance data, report compilation and analysis generation. Analyze data and metrics, interpret operational trends, react to changes in unexpected systems behaviors and patterns in a timely fashion

*         Correlate events across multiple subsystems to narrow down potential root cause

*         Identify technical issues that cannot be corrected quickly, escalating to appropriate engineering teams, communicating and tracking to resolution

*         Engage on new product and service deployments, identify operational requirements

*         Make recommendations regarding new tools and procedures that will aid in overall system uptime and reduce time to issue resolution

*         Suggest and draft procedural and operational improvements.

*         Analyze chronic network related problems to isolate root cause and implement approved solutions.

*         Maintain productive relationships with peer organizations and vendors

*         After hours support is expected. Ability to work different shifts as necessary, including days, afternoons, overnights, weekends and holidays

*         Able to travel for training purposes

*         Other duties as assigned

Skills:

*         Understanding of MPEG2 and MPEG4 (H.264), LAN/WAN, TCP/IP networks, IP Multicast, routers and switches is required.

*         Practical working knowledge of how a Motorola and Cisco Cable TV Head-end functions, including all associated video/network elements

*         Understanding of video multiplexing and principles of multicast transport of video content

*         Experience with encryption technologies

*         Experience using monitoring tools (IneoQuest, MixedSignals, Spectrum, Triveni, etc) and trouble ticketing systems

*         Understanding of specifications relating to closed captioning, PSIP and audio encoding and troubleshooting issues surrounding these

*         Understanding of RF principles as relates to upstream and downstream on HFC plant as well as modulation schemas such as QAM and QPSK

*         Familiarity with basic operating system  -  reading and interpreting logs and processes, configure basic network settings

*         Ability to multi-task and work in a fast paced environment, while demonstrating the personal initiative needed to succeed in such an environment.

*         Mentor, lead, assist, and instruct junior members, regional and market personnel, and local provisioning teams to ensure timely and effective fault detection, outage correlation, ticketing and notifications for all network detected outages.

*         Good oral and written communications skills.

*         Consistent exercise of independent judgment and discretion in matters of significance.


Experience:

*         Bachelors degree or equivalent work experience in related field

*         At least 2 years of related IP video experience and hands on experience with Motorola and/or Cisco (Scientific Atlanta) digital video product lines.
