Hi ALE,

The short version:
My UGA assistantship is over, and my contract work has dried up, so I'm
looking for something to pay the rent as I complete my master's thesis.

The long version:
I spent the past six years pursuing my interest in politics and
technology both in the classroom and the field. As an academic, I
studied the role of the internet in campaigns and conducted original
research in this area. As a member of my community, I volunteered my
time to reducing inequality in access to computer hardware and skills.
As an information technology professional, I developed proficiency in
desktop linux, database management, web development, and linux server
administration. In all my endeavors, my leadership, learning, and
problem-solving skills enable me to confidently handle challenges.

I have a passion for keeping abreast of the latest open source
technology and for sharing my knowledge with others. I have particularly
strong knowledge of system provisioning and web technologies. For
example, I have:

* developed a customized linux image, automated installation routine,
and network boot infrastructure that allows quick, hands-off preparation
of computers
* configured web servers, including features such as SSL, proxies,
rewrite rules, and FastCGI.
* created and managed MySQL databases, including tasks such as
recovering corrupt tables and improving query performance.
* helped developers deploy and troubleshoot their web applications.
* extended and integrated open source web applications.
* wrote custom software, both backend tools and user-facing web
applications, utilizing a variety of scripting languages.

A PDF version of the resume and references are available on request.

I am currently seeking work. My current preference if for up to 25 hours
a week of contract work, but I'm interested in exploring full time
opportunities if they are a great fit for my skills and interests.
Telecommuting is ideal, but on-site work in the Athens, Atlanta, or
Macon area is possible. If you know of opportunity which might interest
me, please contact me via email at brian at polibyte.com

All the best,
Brian Pitts
