I'm just using a long exclude list:

/usr/bin/rsync --progress -aHv --update --delete --delete-excluded 
--delete-after --delay-updates --exclude "test/" --exclude "testing/" 
--exclude "development/" --exclude "debug/" --exclude "ppc/" --exclude 
"ppc64/" --exclude "s390/" --exclude "s390x/" --exclude "sparc/" --exclude 
"sparc64/" --exclude "mips/" --exclude "ia64/" --exclude "source/" 
--exclude "SRPMS/"
