I do a fair amount of fiction reading with FBReader / FBReader Premium ( https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.geometerplus.zlibrary.ui.android&hl=en_US&gl=US ), almost always on my phone rather than a tablet.  For technical books I haven't really made the ebook transition - I'll typically read those on paper or on a full computer screen.

+1 on darker background, brighter text.  But I do that for editing windows on the regular computer too.
