I’m sure it has some sort of embedded chip. I note the passport card I got when I got my last passport actually came with a protective sleeve for the same reason.

Subject: [ale] OT electronics in us passport

Hi all,

I recently got a US passport. On the back page, it says "This document contains sensitive electronics. For best performance, do not bend, perforate, or expose to extreme temperatures,"

Does anyone know what's in there? Do I need to get a metal wallet to carry it?

Sincerely,

Ron
