If you have a local media library, the "WD TV Live HD Plus" does Netflix and HD content from your local network. It also does a few other internet "apps" - like youtube. It is a hackable device and runs Linux.;)

Most of the other "media players" are internet centric and don't do a good job playing local media.

I thinkhttp://vimeo.com/hd  might be a netflix alternative. They used Flash previously. Don't know what it uses today.
