This is probably 100% useless information. But here it is anyways.
Some laptops will not power on, even though they have AC power without the battery in. The way the manufacture(s) wire the power from the AC plug via the battery to the MoBo. I dont know why they would do this. Maybe to save on costs.
Good luck. Working on nonfunctional laptops and trying to bring them back from their deaths is a painful process that I am going through on a Toshiba Windows machine. (it isnt mine but I am the geeky guy friend that gets to fix it).
