It doesn't imply that at all. New people come to mailing lists like
this all the time. Part of what we are here for, after all, is to
support people using Linux systems, both new users and old alike.

I don't really care what Gates thinks, nor do I really care about
Microsoft's existence; they exist, and they will continue to do so for
at least some time. It's no skin off my back, and personally, I would
be very happy to actually _see_ Gates totally fuming because his company
cannot produce an operating system half as stable as the ones we use.
Aside from that providing personal amusement, though, it is rather
pointless.

Personally, I am not offended by it. I did mention that I saw the humor
in it. I just don't think that it's appropriate. How would _you_ feel
if you were a long-time user of Windows and a typical computer user,
started exploring options, and stumbled upon a message in the archives
for a pro-Linux mailing list effectively stating that there was nobody
more "sorry and pathetic" than you are? Not only is that unnecessarily
harsh, I think, but it's going to be a major turn-off for you.

It's not going to drive *me* away, nor will it offend *me*, but it
certainly has the potential to drive off anyone who might be looking for
options, and that would be counterproductive, wouldn't you agree?
