    Yes AT&T has the opt-out but as you mention it doesn't apply to old 
BS customers. I just got around it by putting my mail server on a host 
outside my DSL line and having it listen on port 587 for me to use it 
which also helps when staying at a hotel that blocks port 25 as well.
