[ale] TV tuner card problem

We were all noobs at some point and we faced similar challenges. We
survived. Most of it required time, trial and error, and reading.
I've invested many hours that were not paid for learning the OS, new
languages, and new technologies. In this field constant education is a
requirement. Even if it mean giving up a Saturday of sunny weather in
order to focus on something like Java, Perl, C, Hardware, or anything.

I've installed Linux so many times I've lost count. I've cerated my own
distributions on PC and embedded devices. The closer you can get to the
metal the more you can understand.

Sometimes when I write code is is faster to use a module or other piece
of code pre-written. This is especially true of perl. But too much
reliance on available abstractions leads to a lack of knowledge of the
language. Sometimes I use CPAN modules sometimes I write my own
abstractions. It just depends on how I feel.
