IMPORTANT VVPB UPDATE -- REPRESENTATIVE CONTACT ADDITONS

The independent research votes on paperless electronic election systems have
now been cast, counted and certified, and the rejection of the Diebold
machines and systems used throughout Georgia is nearly unanimous.

After conducting independent reviews and testing of electronic voting systems
for his own state, Nevada Secretary of State Dean Heller, a former head of
the Nevada Gaming Control Board, declared that Georgia's Diebold system
[quote] "Represents a legitimate threat to the integrity of the election
process." [end quote]

Authoritative technology institutions and companies across the U.S., including
respected names like Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Cornell, UC Berkeley,
Johns Hopkins University, MIT, Stanford, Harvard, Princeton, Yale, Georgia
Tech, Carnegie Mellon and Sun Microsystems, have signed a resolution which
mandates a voter-verifiable paper audit trail as the single, simple and
affordable modification to existing electronic systems that would very
effectively guard against election fraud and restore voter confidence in the
entire election process. [<http://www.verifiedvoting.org/resolution.asp>]

Georgia Senate Bill SB-500 mandates that this essential Voter Verified Paper
Ballot auditing be integrated into Georgia's election systems. This
multi-partisan legislation was unanimously approved by a quorum of the
Georgia Senate's State and Local Government Operations committee on Thursday,
2004.03.11. [The SB-500 bill is publically posted at:

The fate of SB-500 currently rests with the Senate Rules committee, the body
responsible for setting the debate calendar for the Senate floor. The
committee, chaired by Senator Don Balfour, MUST place the bill on the Senate
calendar during their MONDAY, MARCH 15th meeting if the legislation is to
meet scheduling deadlines and move forward through this 2004 session.

All advocates of democracy who wish to see this vital legislation succeed are
urged to immediately call, write, fax or email their Georgia representatives
and members of the Senate Rules committee with their [succinct] comments
supporting the implementation of Voter Verified Paper Ballot auditing.

Concerned Georgia voters are also invited to enjoy a free, personal lesson in
civics by joining fellow voter rights advocates in an exciting and
educational day of lobbying for SB-500 at the Georgia State Capitol building
on Monday, March 15, 2004.
