[ale] Sudden mail problems with Comcast cable

I have the misfortune of having my connection through Comcast cable as I live
too far from the CO for DSL.

Starting the eighth, something changed in their mail system; and since I run
linux they are not only useless, they are beligerent about helping.

Most of my mail is sent like this one through KDE mail which somehow still
works through smtp.comcast.net port 25 with no problem. (ps aux shows the
kmail session started 9/8 at 10:27. If I restart X am I doomed?)

The only other automatic mail-out I run is a script output to dshield.org four
times a day. The 8am one worked, the 2pm on didn't.

relay=smtp.comcast.net. [216.148.227.125], dsn=5.1.1, stat=User unknown

The only real change I see is that smtp.comcast.net points to a different IP
address and that dsn= changes from to 2.0.0 to 5.1.1. I have made no changes
on my end, so it must be their end. I know dns, but not dsn. But the irony is
that that kmail just keeps going. I have tried pine and mail and they both
have the same problem with any address. Does kmail maybe skip localhost &
sendmail and just smtp directly? What should I change (besides ISPs - I'm
addicted to getting webpages in the same day as I click on them.). Surely I
am not the only person with this problem.

Yes, I have an earthlink account that I can pop in from, but not smtp out to
since I am not on their IP, but am on Comcast's.
