I don't know about the shadows since that could be a monitor setting or 
specific combination of vertical and horizontal refresh rates.  However, 
I notice you are using the nv driver which is very limited in quality 
and functionality for the Nvidia cards.  You might want to check out the 
nvidia driver from the Nvidia site.  The upgrade is easy since they have 
kernel and xserver rpms and srpms with good directions.  I've noticed a 
sharpness and vibrance with the new driver after tweaking the settings 
available within the nvidia driver.
