As I noted, Maco does not use check free.  Further, my account is not 
debited until the check actually clears.  One of the things that 
impressed me about Maco.

Get an REI Visa card.  You get 10% dividend on REI purchases and 1% on 
all other purchases.  Just make sure you pay it off every month.
