Hi, hope that someone out there can help a newbie.
PROBLEM: installing USB Scanner; Cannot get the xsane 'frontend' to see
the xsane 'backend.'
- How do I manually configure the scanner?
SPECIFICATION:
USB HP ScanJet 6200C, RH_8.0 kernel 2.4.18-27; w/ xsane v0.90 frontend
and xsane v1.0.11 backend, (latest version).
BACKGROUND:
When I run xsane gui, (GNOMEmenu>graphics>Scanning), xsane frontend
launches and runs a device search, which fails. Help says possible
"backend not loaded" or "not configured."
WHAT I HAVE DONE SO FAR:
Read the man pages, but am now confused -but did these tests:
[chris at cedar sane-1.0.11]$ scanimage -L
device `hp:/dev/usb/scanner0' is a Hewlett-Packard ScanJet 62x0C flatbed
scanner
[chris at cedar chris]$
- so we know the device is there!
[chris at cedar chris]$ scanimage \-d test
P5
# SANE data follows
157 196 255
[chris at cedar chris]$
- these numbers apparently indicate a test response, but I've no idea
what they mean!
QUESTION SUMMARY:
The device is there, the driver for my model of scanner is within the
dll library, I looked, but something's not right.
All advice appreciated, thanks in advance,
Chris
