Batten down the hatches, this is about to get REALLY ugly!
Judge Kotelly Admits Error,
Will Create New Ruling with Judge Jackson
Tuesday, April 1, 2003
BROADCAST TRANSCRIPT:
"U.S. District Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly, who oversaw the settlement
between Microsoft and the U.S. Department of Justice, issued a formal
statement to the public and press earlier today, stating that the
acceptance of the MS/DOJ settlement was a ruling made with extreme error.
Kollar-Kotelly stated that her earlier ruling was a mistake and that it was
quote "issued after the defendant offered bribes to individuals residing
within the Department of Justice in an effort to secure a settlement that
would allow the company to maintain its illegal monopoly in software and
operating systems."
The full story can be found here:

and includes this little tidbit:
"Elements to the new remedy will include the breakup of the software
monopolist into 3 parts consisting of Internet, Software and Operating
System. Judge Kotelly said that code from each of these will be made
available to the public by way of the General Public License."
On the down side, the story has yesterday's date!
