Yes, and 50 years ago the average man's tax burden was somewhere in the
neighborhood of 4%. This is not just the corporation's problem.
And, as far as the market, and market conditions.. be careful what you
naysay, so to speak. Markets are cyclical, we had an unprecedented run up,
you rememeber the one.. Alan Greenspan called it "irrational exuberance",
you could see it in the number of exceedingly useless or ridiculous ideas
that got funded between 98-2001. Now, we have an unprecedented correction.
Yes, it's uncharted territory but, if you'll look back at the charts the
market has _never_ failed to return from a correction, regardless of
magnitude. Markets are an unbelieveably pure example of darwinism, you just
have to give them time. The weak will shake out, the strong will survive,
the strong will be stronger becuase they will have picked the bones of the
weak. It is survival of the fittest, right down to the flamboyant feathers
and puffed up chests that make little creatures look so menacing.
The net result of NAFTA and GATT will be what government always results in -
a
*reduced* standard of living down to the lowest common denominator - that of
a
third world country. And if you don't believe it, compare lifestyles/cost
of
living to thos that existed 50 years ago (a man could *comfortably* support
a
wife and 4 or 5 children on his salary alone). And with the conditions of
the
stock market and the economy today, anyone wanna wager that things will get
any *better*?
