You really are talking about logcheck here. That's exactly what it
does. Already available packaged for Solaris 8 at
www.sunfreeware.com. It's also available at
http://www.psionic.com/products/logsentry.html for download (it's
under the GPL). LogSentry is logcheck...name changed.
