[ale] apt-rpm hanging and causes trouble

Thanks for the info, Chris. Definitely a big help. I'd be surprised if
it were not locked up, because I've given it five minutes or more and
never seen a small rpm take that long to install. But, next time I'll
give it 10 and see what happens.
