How
cheap is cheap?

Two
years ago, a good Unix admin can get 70-80K easily.  Now,
they
won't
even talk if you don't have a college degree.

The
dot com bust actually demonstrates how valuable it is to have
a

science.

I
don't have specific recommendations.  There are, however, a lot
of
Linux
developers are joining "real" companies now a day.  They
will
be in
the positions to hire.  The ways to make yourself known is
to

could also pick up
a
package to develop, to maintain, or even to debug.  Send
craps
of
good bug reports will also make yourself visible on many
people's

in the early 90's.
I am
reaping its pay-off now.

    Jobs?
I've been looking for a new job in the *nix
field for about a month and a half now...unfortunately, I have no college
degree whatsoever nor previous job experience in a related field, so
literally *none* of my emails have ever been even so much as
    answered.

I wondered if anybody else has been in this
situation, and if so, how you got started?  Any good places to look for
entry level positions in, say, a PHP programming field?

    Advice muchly appreciated!
