[ale] XP and Samba

Whenever you install TCP/IP, even if you install *only* TCP/IP on
Win9x,NTor W2K, NetBIOS is automatically installed, though not displayed
in the pprotocol window.  I've heard that if you go in and change the
FG/BG in video memory below the last item in the protocol window, the
entry will show.

Apparently XP doesn't do this, hence you have to install NetBIOS
Nameservice separately.  I wouldn't think you would need NetBEUI
Protocol, though.

It's not necessary.  I've got three standalone win95 machines, one
vmware/nt and one vmware/win2k all sharing various shares with each
other and my linux boxes.  I've not installed netbios/netbeui on any
of
them.  All you need is tcp/ip.
