This is going to sound funny but until RedHat 7.2, I hadn't had a out of
the box kernel from a RedHat distro build cleanly since the days of
4.0.3. Not sure why but I make it a point to just download a fresh copy
of the kernel from someplace when I need to recompile the kernel.
This is really annoying too since RedHat makes modifications to their
kernel source tree specifically for their distro and many times you
can't find the same thing in the main kernel tree. I hate tracking down
patches and fiddling with them when you know that its in the source code
that came with the distro.
Just shoddy workmanship in my opinion. But at least it got better with
the latest release.
just my two cents
