I don't remember what the protocol was/is called, but we used to have a
Telebit NetBlazer that supported this.  You had to install a DOS driver
that would basically re-direct all of the serial port calls over the
network (Novell) to this box and it would do the appropriate stuff.

However, this was circa 1994, so chances are the map has changed quite a
bit...I guess I'm just getting nostalgic, but wanted to let the naysayers
know that with the correct software, it is doable.
