Top Three Skills:

1. Linux Engineering - 5-7 years experience including RHEL 5.6 or newer (they are on 5.10 now).
2. Scripting experience- their environment has Python and Bash and while these are preferred they are open to other scripting languages.
3. Experience working with Satellite and Kick Start

Job Description:

75% of this person's time will be devoted to development and project based work and 25% will be the third tier of support and mentoring the support team. CLIENT has many new projects in the pipeline including building API's in a Satellite, building and deploying their own RPMS with dependencies, provisioning new customers in kickstart, and an ongoing project to convert from HP UX systems to RHEL. They are half way through the upgrade and most is automated at this point but there could be some support as needed.

Job Duties:
*Build and deploy Linux servers for CLIENT products (UPN, MDM, MS)
*Use Red Hat Satellite server, including:
kickstart, cobbler, software channels
*Keep software channels updated
*Test updates in development channels before moving to production configuration channels
*Satellite API (write and maintain scripts using Python)
*Assist and guide technical services team in conversion of HP-UX systems to Red Hat Enterprise Linux
*Assist and guide technical services team in migration of RHEL servers from physical to virtual servers
*Test and certify new releases of RHEL with CLIENT software
*Test and certify new RHEL with new technologies
*Maintain monitoring and trending systems (Zabbix and Cacti)
*Build custom RPMs for systems administration and software updates
*Work with a mindset of constantly improving the operating system infrastructure that supports CLIENT's product offerings
*Assist other teams in troubleshooting and solving systems-level problems
*Work with other teams to process work order requests
*Work with QC to verify fixes and improvements before deployment to production
*Tune systems
*Create new scripts and maintain existing scripts to manage systems and processes (e.g. backups, file system cleanup)
*Manage source for scripts using git

Additional Information:

Job Requirements:

RHCE or equilivent experience, we are willing to certify
5-7 years working with Red Hat Enterprise Linux, including 3-5 years with RHEL 5.6 or newer
Working knowledge of Red Hat Satellite server, version 5
Advanced skill with, Logical Volume Management, Shell scripting (primarily BASH and Python)
Ability to write clear, concise documentation
Ability to work well with other teams in an environment with high expectations
Technical acumen troubleshooting problems with operating systems, networks, and hardware
Apache/Tomcat


Preferred:

Oracle database, version 10g and newer
Perl, PHP
Ability to read API documentation and write scripts to utilize API
HP-UX

Work Environment:

This person will be part of the Systems Architecture team and work with 3 other team members reporting to Brad Camp. Being a smaller team there is a lot of opportunity for cross training and ability to wear multiple hats. The company has over 400-500 employees but still has the family owned and operated close feel.

Internal users that own CLIENT's various billing, accounting, engineering and operations products. External users are customers paying for this software to help run their companies.

The systems architecture team will design new projects for building and deploying their products to ensure client's needs and met and exceeded making their products more desirable than the competition.

Business Challenge:

The business challenge that CLIENT is tasked with solving is they currently do not have the most optimized IT infrastructure in place, causing redundancies, missed steps and lack of communication therefor causing CLIENT to spend more money around building and deploying their products. Optimizing these systems will save them money and make their products more appealing to potential customers.
