IT Support Professional Senior (Job Number: 0169937)
Description
*Job Purpose: *Provide unit level support in the installation, operation
and maintenance of a wide variety of applications within a diverse customer
base. Position typically addresses highly complex issues using advanced
system/infrastructural concepts and campus objectives and working with a
high degree of autonomy. May manage project teams.
*Major Responsibilities: *
- Lead in understanding business needs of the unit supported to define
new solutions and technology applications to serve them.
- Provide expert technical advice and/or leadership to technical teams.
- Diagnose and resolve highly complex technical problems with computer
hardware, software and servers.
- Identify and implement server replacement or upgrades.
- Analyze and resolve highly complex workstation, application and server
related problems.
- Deliver technical related presentations to other systems support
personnel and unit administrators.
- Develop and recommend standard operating procedures
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
*Basic Qualifications: *
- *Education: *Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education
and experience
- *Work Experience: *Four to six years job related experience.
- *Certifications: *N/A
- *Skills: *This job requires expert knowledge of and skill in the
installation and maintenance of information technology hardware and
software, requiring an in-depth understanding of industry practices and
campus policies and procedures. Included are skills in problem solving,
decision making, technical/project leadership, customer service, system
documentation and communications.
Qualifications
*Preferred Qualifications: *
- *Preferred Education: *Bachelor's degree in Computer Science,
Electrical & Computer Engineering or equivalent combination of education
and experience.
- *Preferred Work Experience:*Two or more years of job related
experience; extensive knowledge of Linux Redhat server and client side
platforms; Knowledge Enterprise monitoring and management frameworks (RHN
Satellite Server); Perl and Bash scripting; NAS or SAN experience;
experience with Mac OS X; experience in large enterprise or
college/university setting; proficient with helpdesk software systems
(Remedy, RT, or CA Service Desk); basic understanding of system management
solutions(LANDesk/SCCM/SMS); knowledge of engineering Software(AutoCAD,
Matlab, etc.)
- *Preferred Certifications: *N/A
- *Preferred Skills: *Proficient with Microsoft Operating Systems,
specifically to include Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 8.1. Solid
background in installing, maintaining and troubleshooting client software
and hardware; must have basic understanding of Windows Active Directory; PC
hardware troubleshooting skills.
- Excellent customer service skills. Ability to solve problems quickly
and completely with limited supervision. Possess strong interpersonal and
communication skills; and, posses the ability to handle multiple
assignments simultaneously and work well under pressure.
*Additional Tasks May Include: *
- Install, maintain, administer, and troubleshoot Linux Operating Systems
- Troubleshoot, and resolve complex problems associated with Microsoft
Windows and related software
- Install, maintain, and resolve complex problems associated with
hardware peripherals
- Provide assistance (helpdesk) to users in the operation of their
computer systems, installation of hardware/software, profile configuration,
web browser and email configuration, and virus detection/clean up
- Take part in systems management via LANDesk and MS SCCM
- Assist with maintenance and configuration of multiple computer labs
*Impact & Influence: *This position will interact on a consistent basis
with: users within assigned unit which include management, faculty and
staff personnel. This position typically will advise and counsel: users and
other support personnel. This position will supervise: NA (project
direction only).
