JOB MISSION

Internap Sr. IT Systems Engineers are responsible for first, second and third-level troubleshooting and problem resolution of staff computing issues. IT Systems Engineers are also accountable for defining desktop architecture, environment and network management strategies; managing hardware, software, and desktop management standards and strategies, as well as mentoring other technical support analysts. IT Systems Engineers are responsible for investigating and managing data security on mobile devices.

JOB DESCRIPTION
Strong technical skills supporting desktops, laptops, Blackberry/Treos and other mobile PDA/phone devices, video conferencing, and various other hardware. Strong XP. Strong knowledge of Windows NT, 2000, 2003 server. Basic knowledge of UNIX/Linux is required. Support Microsoft core products, McAfee, Clarus, FRx, Oracle financials, Ghost, XoftSpy and Hardcat. Experienced with Internet services such as DNS, email services, HTTP, etc. Networking/server experience is a plus. Experience in supporting all wireless technologies. Organized and good communication and documentation skills required. Great customer interfacing skills. Ability to resolve remote support issues using remote control tools is required. Organized and have excellent time management skills. Project management experience desired. Ability to work off hours may be necessary. Dependability and being on time is crucial to this customer-driven position.

SUMMARY OF KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:            % of Time:

 1.  Provide 1st/2nd/3rd-level support for local and remote                     35%
staff  computing issues

 1.  Design and manage the implementation of desktop                      25%
Strategies, including projects such as system transitions,
Mail services, Ghost image updates, and mass upgrades.

 1.  Develop and manage the documentation of systems,                    10%
software, and processes.

 1.  Perform server management including building and                        5%
maintenance performance optimization. Also includes monthly
Server audits for Sarbanes Oxley requirements.

 1.  Monitor, analyze, and recommend process improvements               5%
 2.  Setup, deploy, and test new desktops and notebook systems.
Maintain existing desktop, notebook and Windows server hardware.     10%

 1.  Perform general system administration duties for account               5%
setup, email, etc.

 1.  Process exits and new hires according to Help desk procedures.       5%

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

 1.  Demonstrated experience installing and troubleshooting Windows 98/2000/XP and Windows NT/2000/2003 server, and common applications
8 years - M

 1.  Experience with PC hardware components and their upgrades.
          8 years - M

 1.  Working knowledge of UNIX/Linux systems
1 year - M

 1.  Experience with Internet services (DNS, email, HTTP, etc.)
5 years - M

 1.  Experience with LAN/WAN topologies and equipment.
5 years - HD

 1.  Familiarity with TCP/IP routing and network design.
5 years - M

Windows Operating Systems: Installation of Windows 98/2000/XP, Windows NT/2000/2003 server. Support and troubleshooting of OS, networking, file sharing, email and common applications. Registry editing and other performance tuning. Solid PC hardware configuration and installation.



UNIX/Linux-based operating systems: Paging and swapping. Inter-process communication. Devices and device drivers. File system concepts. Performance analysis and tuning. Monitoring of CPU load and paging. FSCK utility. Execution of RC stop/start scripts.


Routing: RIP. OSPF. BGP. Access lists. Filters. AS- Path controls.



TCP/IP network management tools. Ping. Traceroute. DNS. FTP. Telnet/SSH. SMTP. ICMP.



High speed networking technologies. 10/100/1000 base XX Ethernet. FDDI. ATM. SONET. DS-1. DS-3. Frame Relay. HDLC. PPP. Wireless.



Cabling: Fiber, including multi-mode and single mode applications. Twisted pair, specifically cat 5 as applied to RJ-45 specification. Serial cabling technology including v.35 and RS-232. DSX panel cross-connect. Cabling systems maintenance and troubleshooting.



While the mandatory requirements for this position are limited to solid PC, Windows 98/2000/XP, Linux (or other UNIX) support skills, and networking skills, leadership and visionary skills, time management and dependability are also desired and will be differentiating factor in considering candidates. In addition, candidate must be able to lift at least 50 pounds and work in various environments.
