Server Engineer



As a Server Engineer you will be responsible for administration and support
of all Distributed Computing Systems implementations. You will also direct
elements of electronic data processing, systems strategies, technology
architecture, project management, infrastructure, and vendor management, and
provides the Infrastructure server team with technology application
delivery, direction, advice and leadership.



 *   Provides direct technical support for all requirements in the planning,
coordination, scripting, and implementation of releases, upgrades, or
changes to our Distributed Computing environment that consists of;  UNIX,
Microsoft, NetWare, Linux, OS400, MAC operating system software, as well as
the range of products and productivity tools that support the testing and
production environments.
 *   Develops technical standards to ensure stable performance for the
Distributed Computing environment(s).
 *   Performs capacity planning, performance monitoring, tuning, and
prediction.
 *   Ensures system maintenance of Distributed Systems and their related
components.
 *   Provides high-level support for one or more of these operating systems,
ensuring proper change management procedures and methodologies are
implemented and followed.  Trouble-shooting issues as they arise, etc.
 *   Participates in 24 x 7 on-call rotation, every 10 weeks, and they're
issued a laptop and cell phone.   (This rotation requirement would not begin
until someone is converted to employee status.  There would be no on call
requirement during the contract portion.)
 *   Provides technical assistance/guidance to less experienced
administrators.
 *   Identifies and evaluates new products.
 *   Maintains vendor relationships.

Requirements:

 *   At least 2-4 years of experience with Linux (Suse Linux / OEL / Red
Hat.)
 *   Prefer experience with VM Ware, but it's not required.
 *   Excellent demonstrated oral, written, interpersonal, and communication
skills
 *   In-depth knowledge of server technologies employed, hardware, O/S, and
related tools and applications.
 *   Expert technical diagnostic and research skills of servers, expert
trouble-shooting.
 *   Ability to identify and escalate issues to management when appropriate
to meet SLA requirements.
 *   In-depth knowledge of networking components and services such as TCP/IP
protocols, DHCP and DNS technologies, and LAN/WAN topologies and transports.
 *   Requires ability to correctly assess risks of various alternatives and
take appropriate actions to restore services in the event of system outages.
 *   Ability to explain the technical implications of various alternative
solutions to non-technical management.
 *   Strong customer service orientation, proven dependability, promptness,
and a solid attendance history.
 *   Knowledge of the business environment.
 *   Ability to perform in a highly motivated, self-directed, and
well-organized manner to handle multiple assignments concurrently.
