OVERVIEW:



The Production Support Specialist is responsible for the implementation and
maintenance of production network management applications and reporting
systems.  The person filling this role serves as support in responding to
and diagnosing production support problems, interacts effectively with
internal customers and appropriate system vendors to conduct necessary
research to resolve issues, ensures documentation standards and procedures
for operations are in place, actively seeks and evaluates opportunities for
process improvement, performs systems and applications maintenance.  The
position requires strong technical skills, strong communication skills, and
network management experience.



This position will focus on the implementation and on-going support of *IP
Detail Record (IPDR) by Applied Broadband*.  IPDR provides information about
Internet Protocol
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_Protocol>(IP)-based service
usage and other activities that can be used by Operational
Support Systems
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operational_Support_Systems>(OSS) and
Business Support Systems (BSS).



POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:



Provides application support; installs, configures upgrades, troubleshoots,
monitors, and maintains software and hardware for network management
applications.



·         Maintain, support, troubleshoot, resolve, and repair issues within
existing NMS tools independently or with minimal assistance.  Resolves more
complex, less defined issues. Able to work to identify scope of issues and
recommend best practices to prevent further occurrences.

·         Works independently in troubleshooting and providing solutions to
unresolved hardware and software problems through trouble-ticket system;

·         Evaluates and recommends changes to support procedures as part of
an ongoing improvement effort.; recommends hardware/software enhancements to
increase productivity

·         Collaborate with team members in the development, implementation
and updates of operations standards for all network management solutions and
processes.

·         Participate in testing of new tools; provide appropriate feedback
for tool improvement.

·         Work with internal customers to gather requirements and understand
goals.

·         Participate in on-call rotation, advanced troubleshooting, and
resolution of problem requests for NMS tools.  Serve as an escalation point
for other team members as required.

·         Provides functional guidance, advice, and/or training to less
experienced support employees.

·         Maintain devices in various network management applications.

·         Ensure documentation of supported systems is current.

·         Provide 24X7 support via on-call rotation.



QUALIFICATIONS:



·         Demonstrated experience with distributed server environments.

·         Prefer experience supporting network management systems
particularly experience with IPDR.

·         Demonstrated basic knowledge of network management protocols.

·         Experience with supporting and/or developing web-based, dynamic
content solutions.

·         Minimum of three years UNIX system administration experience.

·         Minimum of two years supporting distributed server environments in
multiple locations.

·         Network engineering or operations experience preferred.

·         Experience in a carrier-class ISP environment preferred.

·         Minimum two years Experience in perl and bash scripting.

·         Working knowledge of network hardware configurations for Routers,
Switches, Firewalls, and general telecommunications hardware. (eg. CMTS, CM,
MTA)

·         Ability to work with minimal direction in a collaborative team
environment.

·         Excellent verbal and written communication skills.



Typical Training / Experience - Typically requires BS/BA or Associates
degree in Information Technology, MIS, Computer Science or related
discipline and generally 5-8 years of experience in related field, OR MS/MA
and generally 3-5 years of experience in related field. Certification is
required in some areas

technical guidance only on unusual or complex problems or issues



Knowledge - Possesses and applies a broad knowledge of principles,
practices, and procedures of particular field of specialization to the
completion of moderately complex assignments. Solid knowledge of
organization's technologies and practices



Influence/People Leadership - May provide general guidance/direction or
train junior level support and professional personnel
