Systems Engineer /Architect

General Description: The Systems Engineer / Architect will develop and
convey new solutions based on the company's strategic business or technical
requirements. Will also be involved in improving existing systems,
overseeing projects, and assisting with implementations.

 

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

.         Design new systems architecture

.         Develop ideas to improve existing architecture

.         Collaborate with software developers, network engineers and system
administrators to ensure compatibility of new architecture

.         Seek out and leverage technologies for increasing systems and
application performance

.         Perform hardware capacity forecasting (load analysis) for new
applications

.         Oversee projects and their implementations

.         Document and diagram all phases of a project from proof of concept
to implementation in production

.         Provide tier 3 support of network devices (Cisco, F5, Riverbed),
systems (Windows, Linux), and applications (Apache, Nginx, Varnish, etc.)

 

Qualifications:

Required:

.         BS/BA in engineering, computer science or related discipline

.         10+ years experience as a network engineer or systems
administrator (Linux preferred)

.         Experience with large, multiple data center systems

.         Self-motivated, able to take initiative and discover areas for
improvement, propose and deliver solutions

.         Self-directed, able to work with minimal direction or instruction

.         Well versed in network protocols, system and application trouble
shooting

.         Able to think on one's feet and quickly turn around a solution

.         Experience writing software or scripting (Perl, Python, PHP, BASH,
etc.)

.         Big picture focused with insight into all the moving parts of a
system

.         Cisco routers, switches and firewalls (PIX and/or ASA)

.         Apache or Nginx knowledge

.         Comfortable floating into other roles within Infrastructure in the
event of a system outage or emergency

 

Desired:

.         Application development background

.         Not afraid to dig into source code and add features or change
behavior

.         Experience with Ruby on Rails or Sinatra

.         Experience with Mongrel, Thin, or Phusion Passenger

.         C/C++

.         Windows administration

.         CDN experience (Akamai, Limelight, Level3, etc.)

.         Riverbed appliances

.         F5 appliances

.         Varnish HTTP Accelerator

.         Key/Value servers like Redis or memcached

.         Hadoop Framework (Chukwa, Hive, Pig, etc.)
