ups - can you send me some logs like
 rsync -avH --progress
bonaparte.hrz.tu-chemnitz.de::fedora-epel/5/i386/  /tmp/i386/
with ctrl-C after some lines and
rsync -avH --progress babbage.hrz.tu-chemnitz.de::fedora-epel/5/i386/
/tmp/i386/

and the host/ip of your client
I don't know where the bottlneck could be - bonaparte has 4GE/bonding
to the outside and
babbage 1GE ...
If you have a rsync on the client I could do test also to you.
