fedora-archives.ibiblio.org has been serving over rsync 3.0.2 since
shortly after the version's release. I had tentatively tried 3.0 and
3.0.1 but found that these versions ignored our ACL.
In a major filesystem migration I found pre-2.6.9 rsync to barf on
deeply-nested directories or directories containing large numbers of
files, so my first suggestion would have been to upgrade to 2.6.9.
Fedora's recommended --delay-updates and --delete-after flags indeed
disable rsync-3.0's internal recursion scan, but it would be great if we
could pick some combination of options to allow this new feature while
keeping disruption from file deletions to an acceptable level. rsync3's
internal recursion scan seems to have sped things up for ibiblio's
client-side mirroring scripts where supported, and has made a noticeable
improvement in local filesystem synchronisations.
