[ale] Local source for Ubuntu 24.04 friendly desktop?

yeah, there are flavors that retain the non EUFI.   But setting up a 
brand-new (well brand-new drives on a vintage chassis) server, I didn't 
want to get into the scenario where 2 years down the road an upgrade 
makes it not boot.

A friend had a couple of HP Elite desktops that fit the bill just fine.  
  We're up and running RAID1 on Ubunto 24.
