I've installed putty and filezilla from the Ubuntu repos on a local
Lubuntu machine, and I can connect to this machine with both of those.
Assuming that Mint uses the same packages (his version of Mint is based
on Ubuntu 24.04), that would seem to rule out a cipher problem.
I may try to convince him to install VSCode, as VSCode with the Remote -
SSH extension uses the standard ssh command, so it should work.
I'm still puzzled why this isn't working, particularly since it says
it's an invalid user, but the username looks correct in the logs.
