[ale] A modest proposal for the times

Every laptop I've bought in the last 5 years came without a CD/DVD drive.

Luckily you can buy and attach one via USB if you have a need.

It was funny, last year I got a CT scan and they gave me a DVD to give to
the neurologist. I looked at the images then made a copy with my USB
drive. When I tried to give the original to my neurologist he didn't want
it and instead relied upon the findings the radiologist provided him.

I'm not sure if they're still available but at my last job I had a USB
floppy drive. We often did acquisitions and on occasion they actually
provided data to us on floppy.

Same with the wife's budget PowerSpec, very quite and never notice it. Not a
gamer, but it was so much better and cheaper than anything aimed at office
users. Apparently the home user desktop is dead... And when did they drop
optical drives?

BTW your long post below was an interesting read!
