I never used it, but in the late 1990s, cable modems often were connected via USB-networking to the computer. It was the normal USB-A and fat USB connectors that were used.  The lack of firewall was an issue, but it was fun seeing all the CIFS shares for the neighborhood ... er ... so I heard.
