[ale] Hijacking my own IP

I suggest you literally sit on the admin's desk until they fix it.
There is no good way to do what you want.  Even if you keep a "ping" alive
24/7, there is still a possible ARP race condition that will take you off
the net.

So ... as you have no control .... go bother the person who does until
they fix it.
