[ale] So, who do we like for a new 4 port gigabit LAN/WAN Firewall Routers these days?

You can use it as a virtual guest. I ran pfSense for almost a year as
libvirtd (KVM ) Virtual host. It worked. It took me a bit to set up a
bridge to be the outside wan. It worked, the only reason I moved it back
to hardware is that I want to free up the bridge IP. Plus, I use OpenVPN
that is built into the router as my means to VPN home network when I was in
the office. It worked better with hardware than being a virtual server.
Netgate ( pfSense ) has virtual servers you can try 30 days in Amazon or
Azure, that would be like I was running.
I have been tolling with the idea of buying a Banana Pi (
http://www.banana-pi.org/r1.html ) because they have a SBC that has four
nics on them that would be great to build a home base router,

I will say one more thing for pfSense, when I worked PMI, we had two of the
pfSense boxes, one in the Datacenter and one office. We had IPSEC tunnel
up, worked just as good Sonicwall we had before. We had it set up for VPN
as well, so days the developer worked from home, they could just vpn
connect to all the servers. To Raj's point they are inexpensive and you
get support once you have bought one.
The model we used is no longer made, but this is close to it.

Anyway, more thought on it.
Speaking of Cisco, I got ASA 5500, but it needs the memory replaced.
