I like the one's I run or that are run by trustworthy people.
I dislike those making vast security claims and nearly lying
about their ownership and operations.  It is hard to find a VPN
that can be trusted.  Over 50% can be traced to Chinese owners. A
number of others make claims that aren't true based on a figure-head
owner on some island.  If a VPN company owner needs to hide where
he lives, what her name is and which other companies are really
paying for all the infrastructure, they don't make me comfortable.

They have to. Speed of light stuff in the best case.

Security and privacy are different things, sometimes
with competing configuration requirements. It is easy to screw
up privacy for an individual by making tiny mistakes. Just depends
on the type of privacy is desired and from whom.
