[ale] OT: unlimited plans !?!

Yes as I’ve mentioned twice now the “marketing” they’re doing (in TV ads at least as recently as last night) is clearly pushing away from unlimited saying people don’t typically use more than 50GB.

This link talks about what I thought I saw in another post here recently. Apparently “unlimited” actually has a limit.

However, it may be they’ve recently revisited that due to competitors based on this story from 2 days ago:

they just started offering. most carriers are offering some form of unlimited now, does no one see the marketing? I'm on a grandfathered unlimited plan but I'll probably be switching over to the new vzw unlimited plan.

“Offering” or you “currently have”?

The ads I’ve seen sure suggest they’re pushing folks to go away from unlimited. I also thought I’d seen a post on this list within the last month saying they were eliminating “unlimited” plans by simply not renewing them.

Verizon is offering "unlimited" (low priority after 22 GB / line, 10 GB 4g tethering / line) plans for $100 + $20 / line. not bad.

I love Verizon’s new advertising which in essence says “We’re not offering unlimited without a high fee because most people don’t use it.”

If they really don’t use it why put a limit on it? Clearly they’ve realized there are people already using it. The history of computing also tells us that even if you’re not using it yet, over time you will be and if you were dumb enough to buy their premise now you’ll pay a lot more for it then.

Verizon's phones typically feature locked bootloaders and obstacles to rooting tools. T-Mobile is marginally better. I don't know if that's just negligence or the result of a hideous political fight in the technical departments. I do, however, want control of my own devices with a minimum of hassle.
