MythTV is what I use for both live viewing and recording. From a software
standpoint it's the most stable part of my system. Hardware has been a
challenge though. I'm on my third motherboard and my third video hard disk
(a 3GB followed by 2 5GB) in a bit less than two years.

I'm using Kodi for frontends. Not really as stable as I'd like. Tends to
peg the CPU and lock up at random times.

My latest front end test is with a MiBox sold at WalMart. While it looks
like it has the horsepower to be a decent front end, streaming even
from the MythTV box on the same network is choppy on a good day. I've read
a couple of reports of better responses with a USB to ethernet connector.
It's something I may try next month.

The final piece is capture hardware. Cable works pretty well with
CableCards. I have two of them in two HDHomeRun Primes, which carry 3
tuners each. So I can LiveTV or record up to 6 times simultaneously.

Hope this helps,

BAJ
