On another note, I just got a job offer. Two key parts seemed to be that 
I sent over my GitHub URL and the technical interviewer was familiar 
with some of my Open Source contributions.

Since I contribute in my field, it really seemed to help. I'm not a 
wizard coder; I slog along and just get stuff done.
