[ale] XenServer 7.x problem - anyone else using it?

Aha!
I remember there being some mention of problems booting XenServer VMs with Btrfs on the SLES 12 or SP1 beta mailing list, but I never thought it would have the capability to actually cause the logical volume at the virtualization host level to have a problem.  
Well, at least the mystery is solved - although I'm not really sure I understand why.
