[ale] Ubuntu 15.10

I am a early adopter, and paying for it with problems. :-)
I upgraded over the wire from 15.04 to 15.10, and The machine will boot
into the new 4.2 kernel, but I cannot log into the splash screen.  It just
cycles and returns me to the login dialog.
I can log into TTY1 without dificulty
I can log into the GUI using the 3.19.x kernel left over from the previous
15.04 version of Ubuntu.

The 4.2 kernel worked in a Virtualbox vm version of 15.10betaR2, running on
the same host hardware  (HP Pavillion, Core i7, 16GB RAM, nvidia video card)
