[ale] Fwd: Linux Mint 17 Not Recognizing Printer Device - Solved (sort of)

Thanks for all the replies to my original post. "Solution," for me, has
been to upgrade my systems to Linux Mint 17.1. Once upgraded, each
system recognized the printer.

Also, confession time: I had been installing development routines made
available by the Update Manager (labelled as Levels 4 and 5). I repent
and promise to not do it again.

Again, "Thank you, one and all."

I have three systems, one running Linux Mint 13 (32 bit), and two that
are running Linux Mint 17 (32 bit). I have a USB-attached printer (HP
895Cse Desket) that these system suddenly ceased to recognize.
Attempting to delete the printer definitions and re-install it doesn't
work (the printer is not recognized as being attached to the system and,
therefore, available).

What has me confused is that my Dell Inspirion 1525 laptop, running
Linux Mint 17 (64 bit) does recognize it. I can't convert my other
systems to 64 bit because their hardware won't support it.

What am I missing?
