I would run from GoDaddy almost as fast as I'd run from Network
Solutions!

I've had nothing but great experience with enom.com.  (They use Linux
DNS servers and are based in Redmond, WA which is added satisfaction.)

For email, I've found that this year both Gmail and Yahoo have gotten
overly aggressive with their spam filtering (with no easy way for the
recipient to white list senders) and that caused me GREAT inconvenience
when sending drafts of my article to my editor at his Gmail account
and to others.

My own Enterprise-grade spam and virus filter does a better job than
Barracuda and at a much smaller cost.  I do all the configuration and
maintenance (except that a customer easily can add email addresses to
be white listed).  It can be either on a dedicated box in front of any
email system (even the delightful Exchange) or run on a Linux box that
also hosts an email server and anything else.
