[ale] strange ssh

Does the disconnect occur with a MAC error? I had a system causing
disconnects with MAC errors, occasionally couldn't connect due to a bad
handshake, etc, turned out the RAM was bad... Makes me wonder what got
corrupted that didn't have SSH's level of integrity checking.
