[ale] no mouse in XFCE4

so you can't SEE the pointer but it will activate buttons if you get lucky
and find them.

That sounds like a bug in the screen drawing portion of X. Try and
shutdown, reseat the mouse and start up, then do a system update to see if
you got a buggy package. Also test a USB mouse. A different mouse "source"
may force the gui to behave better.
