[ale] Moving my Wife/Kids phones into the 20th Century

This topic has me curious, too.  I'd like to see if there are any other 
stories of successfully accomplishing this.  My dad tried at one point 
by moving his AT&T SIM from a Moto Razr to my sister's old Blackberry 
(she had replaced the BB with an iPhone).  AT&T called him a week later 
and told him they noticed he was now using the BB and he'd must add a 
data plan to his existing plan or they would drop him.  He was going to 
use wifi at home and no data when out but AT&T stopped that cold. 
Granted this was several years ago but I've long considered the idea and 
haven't.  I don't want cell data, just wifi.
